It never bothered me before...

I was listening to the article about the mascots and listening to our discussion afterward got me thinking.
Being Native, I personally never cared that much about Native mascots. My parents had season tickets to the Chiefs games for over 10 years and still an avid watcher of (Tony Gonzalez, I mean of the game) football. I've seen fans dress up in Indian regalia and just laughed at them.
The example that the article gave the Fightin Illini' and the documentary that was brought up did bother me. Its one thing being excited over a sporting event and an other dressing up, degrading the regalia and saying racial slurs is another.
I was happy to hear that the University of Illinois changed their mascot and that the Seminoles can go to school for free. Good article!!

I dont know much about the racial slurs involved in the game. I mean it is all just marketing a name and a brand. The Jayhawks have toilet paper too, I mean these colleges just try to get as much money as they can get. I really dont think that having a native mascot is offensive by any means. Its not like its wild bill's show and cowboys run out and beat up the indians. Its just a guy dressed up in some outfit running around trying to get the crowd excited. However, I do like the Seminoles get to go to FSU for free, that is pretty nice considering its a great university and a very expensive school.

Craig man you're wrong. A guy dancing around in an Indian costume to please a bunch of drunk white college boys is not cool. Wiping yourself with someone's religious symbol is not cool. How many people on fox news would freak if a school starting selling crucifix tp?
